Sampling and Analysis Plan - Operations & Post-Operations <br />0 7.0 SAMPLE ANALYSIS AND ANALYTICAL PROTOCOLS <br />Surface-water and groundwater samples will be analyzed in accordance with the analytical <br />schedule presented in Table 1. The table shows a comprehensive list of analytes that have been <br />selected to support conventional hydrochemistry characterization and assessment of potential <br />environmental impacts associated with development of the RD&D lease. The field parameters to <br />be collected at each monitoring station are also shown in Table 1. <br />The analytical schedule presented in Table 1 was established to provide comprehensive <br />assessment of baseline, operations, and post-operations water-quality. The analytical program <br />may be modified for subsequent long-term sampling efforts as appropriate based on the <br />operations and post-operations characterization results. <br />The groundwater parameters are partially defined by the parameters listed for numeric standards <br />of the primary streams in the vicinity of the site (Black Sulphur Creek and Piceance Creek) as <br />promulgated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Water <br />Quality Control Commission (WQCC). Analytes that have numeric standards include dissolved <br />• oxygen, pH, boron, cyanide, nitrite, ammonia, iron, manganese, selenium, arsenic, silver, <br />cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, nickel, lead, and zinc. Standards have also been <br />established for fecal (F) coli and escherichia (E) coli. Other analytes are being evaluated to <br />interpret and characterize a particular water source and to examine trends over time. <br />Samples will be received by the analytical laboratory in accordance with chain-of-custody <br />procedures. These samples will be analyzed for metals using methods detailed in Test Methods <br />for Evaluating Solid Waste, Revised Methods. SW-846. Third Ed. U.S. Environmental <br />Protection Agency, Washington, D.C. After digestion, all samples will be analyzed for metals by <br />inductively coupled plasma- mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) in accordance with SW-846 methods <br />6010 and 6020. The trace metals aluminum, arsenic, antimony, barium, beryllium, cadmium, <br />cobalt, chromium, lead, molybdenum, selenium, silver, uranium, and vanadium will be analyzed <br />using ICP-MS (Method 200.8). The metals copper, iron, manganese, nickel, and zinc will be <br />analyzed using inductively coupled plasma (Method 200.7). <br />The report of analytical results will include a cover letter from the laboratory identifying the <br />sample group and any non-compliant control results.
