Water Storage Pond Compacted Clay Liner
Parcel 1, S'1/2 , SW'/. , Section 36, T1S, R67W
Adams County, Colorado
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF STUDY
GROUND previously completed a geotechnical study of the subject parcel west of the
intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and 120°' Avenue in Adams County to assess both the
subsurface materials and the stability of the proposed pond wall slopes in support of
excavation of the site for aggregate resources and to construct a water storage pond.
Our findings and conclusions were presented in the report, Subsurface Exploration
Program, Geotechnical Recommendations, Proposed Aggregate Quarry and Water
Storage Project, Parcel 1, S% , SW's , Section 35, T9S, R67W, Adams County,
Colorado (Revised), Job No. 02-0122, prepared for Les Ewegen, LLC, dated November
8, 2002. This report presents the results of supplemental slope stability analyses
performed in support of design and construction of a compacted clay liner for the pond,
planned to supplement a previously constructed slurry wall. Our report was prepared in
general accordance with GROUND's Proposal No. 0910-1511, dated October 12, 2009.
Reference is made to our November 8, 2002, report for a description of the site surface
and subsurface conditions, and our general geotechnical findings and recommendations.
We consider all recommendations in that report not specifically superseded herein to
remain valid. In addition, laboratory tests were performed on samples of aggregate
retrieved from the site. No additional subsurface exploration was undertaken as part of
our present scope of services.
This report has been prepared to present our conclusions and recommendations based
on the proposed construction and the subsurface conditions encountered during field
work for our prior report.
SITE CONDITIONS AND PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
At the time of this supplemental evaluation, the site was an approximately 35-acre parcel
much of which had been excavated as part of aggregate mining operations. Existing
water storage ponds occupy the parcels to the north and northeast. Agricultural and
commercial properties were noted to the east, south and west.
We understand that the aggregate quarrying operations will be continued until the great
majority of the useful and readily available aggregate has been mined. At that point,
construction of a compacted clay liner - ideally from material derived from the claystones
Job No. 09-3090 GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc. - Page 1
