We examined Pond 4, which is just south of the gate. The berm was leveled by pushing in the
northeast portion of the pond embankment, and the soil was planted (see Figure 1>. The soil
appeared compacted, and it was discussed that the company should have tilled before plantin?o to
ensure good vegetation success. The discharged pipes were removed and the spillway was filled
in. Mr. Muhr had sprayed the knapwced and thistles 2-3 weeks prior.
Next we walked towards Pond 5. Oxbow, who is the fee surface owner of the disturbed area,
requested that the dirt road leading to this pond remain (see Figure 2). The southern portion of
the pond embankment was pushed in to level the pond. The discharged pipes were removed and
the spillway was filled in. The vegetation was establishing itself well, having been in a shadier
location then the vegetation recently planted at Pond 4 (see Figure 3).
Next we examined the till-CC underdrain pipes that were placed in and under the waste bill to
channel water out of the main bench area. The outlets were covered with rocks as required by
DRMS (see Fig*ure 4). The second pipe was showing signs of seeping (see Figure 5).
The group then visited the piezometers that were cut off at ground level and filled with dirt.
The short upland diversion ditch in the northeast corner of the reclaimed main area and the
upland diversion ditch at the reclaimed temporary coal stockpile area did not need to be
reclaimed, as well as the ditch on the reclaimed upper mine bench terrace and the ditch that leads
to Pend 5.
Fi.-ures:

Fiy_ure 1: Pond 4 where berm was pushed in and reseeded.
