Attachment B, Technical Revision to the May Day Mine Permit, September 12, 2009. 3 of 35
Aero 350 Xanthate (floatation aid]. This material must be stored in closed
containers in a cool environment. Because of the potential damage to the
environment and personnel large amounts of this material should not be left
unattended during process mixing. Remove only the amount needed for
each reagent batch mix and use promptly. Any material spilled should be
recycled into the process. Care to follow health and safety recommendations
by the manufacturer must be given. It is recommended }that this material be
stored distant from other reagents and do not have excessive amounts in
storage. Use the material in stock and reorder so as to not accumulate
excessive amounts on site.
Aerofloat 208 [promoter reagent]. This material is a strong alkali and as
such should not be mixed with acids or acid producing chemicals. This
material can produce dangerous gases if reactions are not vented or if
excessive amounts are added to the classic floatation process. This material
should be stored in dry areas and in over-pack drums tollprevent spillage. In
the event of spillage adsorb onto sand and recycle back to the process.
This material can be adsorbed through the skin so additional care in handling
is needed. This material can adsorb into food and tobacco products if they
are stored or used in the presence of this product. i
4.
As with all chemical reagents only remove the amount needed for the
daily process and do not make reagents in advance. Personal protection
gear is needed for all workers and visitors. Consult the MSDS packets for
specific requirements, but at a minimum gloves, eye protection and adequate
ventilation is needed at all times. Follow the MSDS guidelines for spillage
procedures and disposal. I
These reagents are widely used in the mining industry and have years
of safe use, when used in accordance with stand rrd procedures for
binding/chelating/floatation and related procedures.
If you have any additional questions please give me a call.
