MINING PLAN
1. General Mining Plan
EXHIBIT D
The property boundary has been surveyed on site and the permit area will be surveyed prior to
any site disturbance. Map C-3 shows the mining plan.
The gravel zone is approximately 20 feet thick in an alluvial deposit and is overlain by soil and
overburden ranging from 12 inches to 6 feet. The mining of the area in this permit will take place
in 3 phases, each approximately 9-10 acres in size. The gravel is recent alluvium of the
Quaternary Age, in the old floodplain of the Yampa River. The bedrock underlying the gravel is
Lewis Shale. Mining will occur to the top of the shale since there are no known issues with
selenium in the Lewis Shale.
The maximum total tonnage sold from the site in any one calendar year is approximately 150,000
tons, though the expected annual average is 125,000 tons. The raw material will be sold in three
products: sand and gravel, concrete, and asphalt. Since Elam already has production facilities at
the neighboring Bunn Ranch Pit, raw gravel extracted from the Gehrman Pit will be processed at
the Bunn Ranch facilities. No processing will take place on the Gehrman site. A breakdown of
the product tonnages and mined tonnages can be seen in Table D-1. The total disturbed area is
30.4 acres. A breakdown of the estimated areas and the material from each phase is included in
Table D-2.
Gehrman Pit October 09 D-1
