In 1997 the State approved the Carol Ann Pit mining plan which
included the following seed mixture as part of the reclamation plan;
Species Pounds Loose Seed Per Acre
Smooth Brome 4.0
Bluebunch Wheatgrass 2.0
Ephraim Crested Wheatgrass 2.0
Barton Western Wheatgrass .3.0
Sheep Fescue 3.5
Indian Ricegrass 3.5
Total. 18.0 pls/acre
The original land owner, Carol Schmidt, married Bob Newby and now Bob manages the
property. Bob met with the local representative of the US Soil Conservation Service and
they have selected a new seed mixture to better fit Bob's post mining growing plan. The
proposed seed mixture is as follows;
Species Pounds Loose Seed Per Acre
Smooth Brome 4.0
Orchardgrass 4.0
Ephraim Crested Wheatgrass 2:0
Barton Western Wheatgrass 3:0,
Red Clover 4.0
Indian Ricegrass 3.0
Total 20.0 pls/acre
