Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />Re: Burros Mine, Permit M-1977-297, Request for Technical Revision (TR-5) Weed Control Plan. <br />Dear Mr. Coram, <br />This office has reviewed your request for a technical revision to the above-named permit, specifically to include a <br />noxious weed control plan. The plan that was submitted was very brief, to the point of not naming which noxious <br />weed species are present or being monitored, or what chemical(s) you proposed using. Weighing these factors alone, <br />the weed control plan should be considered inadequate for Division approval. <br />However, there is a well-documented relationship between Gold Eagle Mining, Inc. and the U.S. Department of <br />Energy (DOE), the land management agency with whom Gold Eagle Mining, Inc. has a lease arrangement to mine on <br />specific tracts. Due to the frequent weed monitoring inspections and weed mapping performed by DOE, and the weed <br />control that the DOE requires Gold Eagle Mining, Inc. to perform, this office may accept the brevity of the submitted <br />plan, and approve the technical revision. <br />This technical revision approval does not include a bond adjustment to the permit. But the Division requires that the <br />operator provide updated information in each annual report, concerning the annual weed control activities. This should <br />include the species observed and treated, the location and acreage of the treated weeds, what chemicals were used and <br />the approximate date(s), and the effectiveness of the treatment(s). If this office finds that the monitoring, reporting, or <br />treating is not adequate, the operator may be required to revise this weed control plan. If the DOE weed monitoring, <br />mapping or treatment requirement ceases or significantly changes in the future, you are instructed to contact this office <br />so that an effective weed control plan may be developed. <br />Thank you for continuing the vigilant monitoring and weed control.
