EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN (CONT.)
the E-W drainage. A maximum of 20.00± acres will be opened
before reclamation begins.
We will maintain a 25-foot setback from the permit boundary
so there is adequate space on the tops of the slope for mainte-
nance, grading and shaping. If option 2 is used then there will
be no setback along the west side where the mines adjoin. Being
a dry operation, we will mine to an elevation that is approxi-
mately 5 feet above the ephemeral drainage and slope the mine
floor towards the drainage. This will preserve the flow charac-
teristics of drainage and assure that any flow that might go down
the drainage will not enter the mine. It will be necessary to
cross thru this drainage but the exact location(s) is/are unknown
at this time. If necessary a corrugated metal pipe (CMP) will be
installed at the crossing point to allow stormwater to continue
down the drainage in an unimpeded flow. A graveled grade cross-
ing may be used instead, depending on how often water flows down
the draw.
Mining at Grand County Gravel mines is done in cycles.
These cycles involve moving a crushing plant into a mine and
beginning to process material until we have a 6 month to 1 year
supply of rock stockpiled. Once an adequate supply is processed
the crusher and equipment is moved to the next mine. The stock-
piles will be used throughout the year for road maintenance in
the vicinity of the mine. As mining ends the working face is
temporally graded to 2:1 so it is stable when there are no
activities in the mine. Any resoiling and revegetation needed is
completed and as needed the material is removed. This cycle
continues until the mine is played out. We use a portable plant
to process gravel at all of the mines to better utilize the
equipment.
Each time we re-enter the mine we will begin by setting up
the plant and begin stripping the area to be mined during this
cycle. The topsoil and overburden will be stockpiles along the
mine perimeter setbacks or on the mine floor, i.e. in places
where it will not be disturbed until needed. The approximate
location of the overburden and topsoil piles are shown on the
MINING PLAN MAP.
Mining will begin on a section of the temporary slopes
created at the end of the last mining cycle until a near vertical
face is open. This face will be worked to the east and west
until it extends across the property and at that time mining will
progress to the south. As mining progresses thru the site the
processing plant will be set near the open face to reduce the
haul distance from the mine face to the processing plant. Once
we reach the south line we will return to mine the area north of
the E-W drainage. It should be noted that the material north of
the drainage is different then that on the south. If we have a
need for that material we may open an area in the north before
mining ends on the south side.
This pit will be operated year-around by Grand County
Department of Road and Bridge, weather permitting. There may be
periods when the demands for material are slow and no mining will
9 (revised 9/23/09)
