I UWARGE
AGGREGATES
& CONCRETE

September 18, 2009
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Ebert,
fIrp
k, < < ZZ13
Lafarge would like to request a Technical Revision to the 112c mining permit (File
Number M-1982-147) issued by DRMS for Lafarge at the Nyholt Pit in Adams County,
CO.
To begin, Lafarge has been working with Adams County Parks for a number of years to
create a regional park at this site. Through this process and a series of agreements, some
minor changes have been included on the reclamation plan that will complete their
regional park design. The first change is the inclusion of a roadway that will traverse the
site beginning at 124th Avenue and heading south to meet up with 120th Avenue. This
roadway will be paved and maintained by Adams County to provide access to the park
from both roadways. Around the midpoint of the roadway there will be a parking area.
This area will be partially paved along with the roadway and the remainder will be a
gravel parking area. Also along the roadway will be a trail that will follow along the east
side of the road and connect with the regional trail system off-site.
The other items that should be included in the technical revision are in regards to the
three lined reservoirs and their function as water storage vessels. The addition of a below
ground interconnect system to connect the three reservoirs is included on this revision.
This interconnect is necessary to provide consistent water levels and storage between the
vessels. Also three grouted boulder rundown structures that provide erosion control
within the three lined reservoirs are to be included. The final structural item to be
included on the site is to have the Scale House to remain. Adams County plans to use the
Scale House to monitor final construction on the site after release and possibly as a park
office in the future. The Scale House will remain in its current location as shown on the
attached map.
Lafarge would also like to request a modification to the Grass Seed Mix approved on the
site. Adams County Parks would like to change the seed mix to their regional park grass
seed mix to match other areas already planted in the region. The new seed mix will be as
follows:
Switchgrass 4.5 PLS/ac @20% = 1.0 PLS/ac
Side Oat Grama 9.0 PLS/ac @20% = 1.8 PLS/ac
LAFARGE WEST, INC. -- Aggregate & Concrete
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200, Westminster, Colorado 80021
Telephone: (303) 657-4000 Facsimile: (303) 657-4037
