• VEGETATION INFORMATION
EXHIBIT J
The vegetation community on the entire permit area is poorly vegetated dry rangeland. As seen
in the photos below, the permit area has very little vegetation. It is estimated that drought
resistant grasses have a ground cover of between 3% and 5% with small shrubs covering
approximately 2%. As seen in the photos, little to no topsoil is available for salvage, so excess
fines from the operation will have additives such as fertilizer added to them in order to make
them suitable soils for reclamation purposes to ensure successful reclamation. The primary
woody plant vegetation onsite is yucca, rabbit brush, and sage. There are some tamarisk within
the drainages which exist onsite.
All vegetation communities can be seen on Map C-1 Pre-Mining Plan Map. Below are several
pictures which show the vegetation communities in the proximity of the permit area.
Approximately 0.5 acres of the permit area was mined before 1977 and no topsoil was salvaged
from this activity. Current vegetation in this area is very poor.
•

Korinek 41 Pit August 2009 J-1
