(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1978-143
INSPECTION DATE 09/16/09 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS PSH
OBSERVATIONS
The Kremmling Airport, File No. M-1978-143, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety (Division) in response to an acreage reduction (AR-01) request. Mr. Bill Clark and Bill
Underbrink with Grand County Department of Road and Bridge were present during the inspection.
The Kremmling Airport Pit is located south of the Kremmling Airport and southeast of the town of Kremmling,
Colorado.
The Kremmling Airport 110c to 112c construction material reclamation permit conversion (CN-01) was
approved by the Division on September 9, 1993. The Division approved an amendment (AM-01) to expand
the pit 11.60 acres and revise the reclamation plan on July 31, 2008. The total permitted area is currently
32.91 acres. On September 3, 2009, the Division received an acreage reduction request (AR-01) from Grand
County Department of Road and Bridge to release the western 21.31 acres of the site.
As noted during the previous inspection on April 14, 2009, a wood pellet plant has been constructed on the
western 21.31 acre permit area. Topsoil from the western portion has been removed from the site and
stockpiled along the northern boundary of the amended site.
The approved post-mining land use is industrial/commercial. The western portion of the property is currently
owned by Confluence Energy and Independent Gas. The wood pellet plant was built during the fall and
winter of 2008 and started production in February 2009 according to Mr. Clark. The site consists of the plant
facility, office trailer and various stockpile and production areas on the former pit floor. The former pit floor
is gravel and the northern slope vegetation consisted of crested wheatgrass, kochia, cheat grass and yellow
clover. Wood chips and sawdust have been placed on the eastern half of the northern reclaimed slopes. A
log storage area has been created in the northwest corner of the site with fill material presumably from the
excavation of the plant site. The Independent Gas facility is located on the western end of the site and is
delineated by chain link fence. A gravel berm separates the western 21.31 acre site from the amended 11.60
acre area.
An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers were observed as required by Rule 3.1.12. No
problems were noted during the inspection. No objections or comments regarding the partial release request
have been received by the Division to date. The Division will recommend approval of the acreage reduction
request (AR-01) based on the inspection observations.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
cc:
?
