(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2009-048
INSPECTION DATE: 8/12/2009
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The Gunnison River Pits are a 58.3 acre operation located approximately 15
miles east of Grand Junction, Colorado off of Colorado Highway 141. The site is a 112c operation. Ed Settle of
Grand Junction Pipe and Supply Company accompanied the inspector during the inspection.
A sign indicating a proposed operation was observed on a fence at the access of the site and in compliance with the
requirements of Rule 1.6.2(1)(b).
The proposed operation consists of five separate ponds that run along the Gunnison River. All the pits are connected
by an existing road that runs adjacent to the Gunnison River. The road is included in the permitted area and will
need some improvements to support the operation. The road is to remain after the mining operation has ceased.
Pit #4 has already been disturbed and some material has been removed by the previous landowner and used to
surface the existing road.
Several areas covered with Russian Knapweed were observed at various locations within the permit area. Per
Rule 3.1.10(6), Methods of weed control shall be employed for all prohibited noxious weed species. All areas
that are affected by the knapweed should be de-vegetated and buried along with the upper 2-3 inches of soil in a
slope/highwall backfill to limit the spread of the noxious weed through sale or transport of construction
materials from the site upon commencement of mining.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the August 12, 2009 inspection are included at the end of this
report.
No problems or possible violations were observed during the inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3'd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone
no. 970-623-5596.
I & E Contact Address cc:
NAME: Ed Settle
OPERATOR: Grand Junction Pipe and Supply Company
STREET: P.O.
