1 12 APPLICATION PAGE 11 OF 35 <br />Nature, depth, and thickness of the deposit to be mined and the thickness and type of overburden to be <br />removed; and Nature of the stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined in sedimentary <br />deposits. <br />Overburden material within the project site is approximately six inches deep. The <br />top two to six inches of existing topsoil material will be stockpiled and reused for site <br />reclamation work. <br />Approximately six feet of sand, gravel and cobble material is located under the <br />overburden material described above. This material will be extracted and <br />processed. In general, the upper portion of this lens contains more fine-grained <br />sand material. Cobbles within the lens are anticipated to range in size up to five <br />inches in diameter. <br />Below the sand and gravel lens is weathered silty, clay Mancos Shale, which is <br />considered bedrock in this portion of Mesa County. Mancos Shale is a dark gray- <br />to-gray block, thin-bedded to laminated shale with interbeds of siltstone and <br />sandstone. <br />(g) Identify the primary and secondary commodities to be mined/extracted and describe the intended use: <br />The primary commodities are sand and gravel which will be used for construction <br />materials. <br />Secondary commodities consist of the overburden soils, which will be used, along <br />• with additional inert imported materials, for backfill to reclaim the project site. <br />Overburden soil may also be needed for "fines" to produce the road base <br />materials. <br />(h) Name and describe the intended use of all expected incidental products to be mined/extracted by the <br />proposed operation. <br />Incidental products mined from the site consist of overburden soils which will be <br />used primarily for site backfill / reclamation. Overburden soil may also be required <br />for "fines" to produce road base materials. <br />•
