Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) submitted NPDES Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) for second
quarter 2009 and June 2009, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment CDPS permit no.
CO-0027154 on July 31, 2009.
TCC reports that in June outfalls 003A (Pond B), 005A/MON5/005W (Pond D), 006A (Pond E), and 008A
(Pond G) all discharged. No parameters exceeded the standards for any of these outfalls in June.
No parameter exceedances were reported for the quarterly parameters, although pH for outfall 006A (Pond
E) was approaching the maximum. The second report for outfall 007A (Pond F) contains results for some
of the parameters but is missing results for pH and TSS. Please provide an explanation as to why these
parameters are missing, and provide these results. Although outfall 007A did not discharge in June, it did
discharge during the quarter; therefore analysis should have been completed.
In TLC's May DMR for CO-0027154, the form for Outfall 005A was not included with the report. TCC's
cover letter indicated that corrections were being made to the form and that the DMR for Outfall 005A
would be forthcoming. The Division still has not received the DMR form for outfall 005A for May 2009.
Please submit a copy of this report to the Division.
The reports are in compliance with Rule 4.15.13(2)(iii). Thank you for prompt submittal of these reports.
Sincerely,
4*Jan H.
