Alu//
TETRA TECH
Pe5p Crw-';e fV
September 4, 2009
J Division
??s°G'ICri,
4V
Mr. William Rodman
3613 West F Street
Greeley, CO 80631
RE: Lafarge Permit M-1977-036
Dear Mr. Rodman:
Lafarge is in receipt of your letter of August 16, 2009 objecting to the Brown property expansion of
the 35`h Avenue mine if mining requires the removal of groundwater. The purpose of this letter is to
inform you of the area to be mined and mining methods to be used, as well as to address mitigation
plans to be implemented by Lafarge to protect existing area wells.
The expansion area is the Brown property located on the northwest side of the existing mine
approximately one mile northwest of your property. Mining on the Brown property will include
dewatering to allow for mining under dry conditions. Because of the distance, we do not anticipate
that mining of the Brown expansion will impact wells on your property.
Lafarge will have a groundwater monitoring and mitigation plan for the site that will be on file under
the permit at the Colorado Division of Mining and Reclamation Safety. The purpose of the plan will
be to monitor groundwater conditions in the area and to mitigate impacts to existing wells from the
mining operations. This plan spells out temporary mitigation measures for impacts suspected to be
due to Lafarge's operations, and long term measures for impacts determined to be by Lafarge's
operations. A copy of the monitoring and mitigation plan is attached.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
TETRA TECH
ary Linden, R.G.
Project Manager
Attachment
cc: Anne Best Johnson, Lafarge
red Ebert, Colorado Div. of Reclamation
Julie Cozad, Tetra Tech
Pam Hora, Tetra Tech
1900 S.
