• 2008 AHR McClane & Munger Canyon Mines Page 4
Effect of the Mine on the East Salt Creek Regime
Surface Water
Due to the limited disturbance of the mines there is little chance any significant effect on
the quantity or quality of the surface waters near either mine sites has occurred. As the
Division notes in its approval package for the Munger Canyon Mine, the total area that
will be disturbed by both mine sites amounts to 0.12 percent of the area of the East Salt
Creek drainage basin above the mines.
Surface water samples from East Salt Creek were obtained for three of four quarters
during the water year at monitoring stations SW-1 and SW-8. SW-4 only had flow during
the 1 sc and 2"d quarter. Apparently the landowner is consuming or storing all of the flow
between SW-8 and SW-4. The results from all water samples collected during the water
year are presented in Table 4. The results from the samples collected from East Salt
Creek above and below the mine site are generally the same for all parameters.
The McClane Canyon Mine discharged to East Salt Creek during four months (February,
March, May and June) during the water year. The water quality of the discharge met
discharge permit requirements with the exception that the June WET test failed. There
has been no discharge since that time so accelerated testing has not been initiated.
Table 6 contains analyses of mine water discharged into East Salt Creek. The mine
• water had an average TDS value of 1,801 mg/I. The average TDS value for East Salt
Creek at SW-1 was 1,581 mg/I during the water year. The following tables show there
was no degradation of East Salt Creek during the first quarter and only minor
degradation (0.9% increase) during the second quarter. TDS for the mine discharge is
the average for the quarter. The mine did not discharge during the 4t' quarter of 2007 or
the 3`d quarter of 2008.
PHC East Salt Creek First Quarter 200 8
Flow m Flow cfs TDS
SW-1 East Salt Creek 2,020 4.5 1972
Mine Discharge 40 0.09 1962

Combined Flow 2,060 4.59 1972
PHC East Salt Creek Second Quarter 20 08
Flow m Flow cfs TDS
SW-1 East Salt Creek 1,795 4.0 1060
Mine Discharge 30 0.07 1640

Combined Flow 1,825 4.59 1069
However the second quarter minor degradation is not apparent in the comparison of TDS
• values at SW-1 upstream and SW-8 downstream as shown in the following table.
Rev. 08/09
