Mycorrhiza to coat the seed at time of planting.
Reclamation will include spreading and discing-in the stockpiled topsoil over disturbed areas. At this time no
additional topsoil, fertilizer or soil amendments are is anticipated to be needed. However, Weld County Public
Works has access to topsoil and soil amendments, manure, etc. should these materials be needed. After the disturbed
area is reseeded, straw mulch will be crimped in at a rate of 2 tons/acre. (Prepared in consultation with: T. Boonton,
BS, MA, Weed Supervisor, Weld County Public Works)
e) Reclamation re-grading and seed and mulch applications will be accomplished following completion of
each seasonal mining event on those completed areas. Seasonal mining activities are anticipated to
involve 20 to 40 acres per event; reclamation to follow the same sequence (20 to 40 acres per event).
i) Experience at the nearby Pierce pit (`old pit') is that re-vegetation may take 2 to 3 years to
establish.
ii) Reclamation efforts to follow each mining area, 20 to 40 acres per event.
iii) Reclamation sequence: re-grade to stable slopes, topsoil application, discing in, seed
application, mulching. Re-seeding as necessary.
f) Reclamation
i) Reclaimed slopes to be graded to 3:1 (H to V) or flatter.
ii) Seed mix to be adjusted per NRCS and Weld County Weed supervisor recommendations but
likely to include: Seed mix: Buffalo Grass (Texoka, Sharps Improved) applied at 4.5 lbs/acre,
Little Bluestem ) applied at 3.5 lbs/acre, Sideoats Grama (Vaughn, Butte, Niner, El Reno, and
Haskell) ) applied at 2 lbs/acre, Blue Grama (Hachital, Lovington) ) applied at 4.5 lbs/acre,
Sand Dropseed ) applied at 0.5 lbs/acre, Total: 15 lbs pls/acre. Other addition: Mycorrhiza to
coat the seed at time of planting.
iii) Topsoil in the area previously was adequate for dry land wheat farming: no fertilizer needs are
planned.
iv) Revegetation will be with native drought-tolerant grasses (see seed list in item ii.
V) Topsoil depths will vary, typically will match pre-mining depths.
MADAVE B\Pierce North\DMG permit\Exhibits-Revl.doc 8/21/2009
