Inspection Report - Problem 6
Canada thistle was observed in several areas within the mill site.
Inspection Report - Corrective Action
The operator must, within 60 days, submit a weed control plan developed in consultation with,
and approved by, the appropriate local weed control authority as a technical revision to the
permit. Significant progress toward control of on-site weeds must be demonstrated within three
years to avoid potential enforcement action.
Operator Response - Extension request for technical revision submittal
August 24, 2009
The Leadville Mill submits the attached weed control plans, one for the Leadville Mill and one
for the Hopemore Shaft. The plans were prepared with input from Mr. Larry Walker, Chaffee
County Weed Control. His report follows the weed control plans.
At the Leadville Mill site, Mr. Walker stated in his report that he found a few Oxeye daisies on
the fence line next to the water treatment plant and a few Canada thistle on the pond dike and at
the south west corner of the mill. He found a small patch of Yellow toadflax on the Hopemore
Shaft property. His recommendations for management of these noxious weeds have been
incorporated into the respective plans.
An extension of 30 days is requested to have the state perform a cursory adequacy review of the
weed control plans and subsequently allow preparation of the technical revision for inclusion in
the existing permit. The technical revision submittal will be in accordance with the current plan
of separate permits for the Leadville Mill and the Hopemore Shaft.
