It is our understanding that this amendment adds additional area for mining to the existing perrtr,it, which
may be considered a change in use of the activity, CDOT is requesting traffic information regarding
number of Tons/day being hauled out of the pit from the access at US 160 to evaluate laze warrant
requirements.
2. An inressing_riaht turn lane is warranted when peak hour passenger car volumes exceed 25 vehicles per
lout (vrfh). A tandem dump truck (54,000 Lbs GVW)is equivalent to 2 Passenger Car Equivalents
(PCE's) and a belly dump (85,000 lbs GVW) is equivalent to 3 PCE's. This threshold is calculated using
all .land. uses associated with the access. A right turn deceleration lane should be constructed or, other
access alternative should be constructed before this peak !tour lane warrant is met.
3. Current existing auxiliary lanes include an in ressi,ng left turn deceleration lane into the pit and an
eressing left-turn acceleration lane out of the pit.
4. C&J Gravel has expressed interest in an, alternative access to this pit from the east that would tie into the
interchange being constructed by CDOT. This access alternative is likely not going to be available for a
few years. There is the possibility that C&J Gravel could develop interim access using portions of the
partially completed of the interchange. CDOT encourages this interim solution.
I can be reached at 970-385-3624 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jam. es B. Horn
Access Manager
Xc: Helen.
