along the south side of the Arends property and construct an extension of the ditch
(also bentonite lined) on the east side of North Tower Lake to carry Petrocco's surface
irrigation return flow water directly to the McCann Ditch.
B. Mitigation during Reclamation
During reclamation, RMCC will install a French Drain system along the west side of
Brighton Road. This drain will be installed between the compacted backfill and the
mining setback along Brighton Road. The French Drain will serve to protect property
and structures east of the backfilled pit from ground water mounding. The ground
water intercepted by the French Drain will be discharged directly to the McCann
Ditch. Also, because of the gradient of the ground water table towards the South Platte
River, ground water not intercepted by the French Drain system will naturally migrate
around the compacted backfill area to the McCann Ditch.
RMCC will also construct a bentonite lined ditch from the west side of Brighton Road
at East 144 Ave. to the relocated section of the McCann Ditch. This ditch will replace
an existing ditch on the Reinoehl property, which conveyed irrigation runoff and
dispersed it in an open area on the west side of the Reinoehl property up-gradient from
the McCann Ditch. Unlike the existing ditch, the new ditch will discharge water
directly into the McCann so that the McCann may receive a greater amount of water
from the new ditch than it did under historic conditions.
III. Summary
Implementation of RMCC's proposed mitigation plan both during mining and as part
of reclamation for the protection of the McCann Ditch will ensure that the proposed
mining and reclamation plan will have no adverse effects on the operation of the ditch.
8/19/2009 19
