Inspection Report - Problem 4 (August 17, 2009 Update)
Evidence of erosion from the three temporary ore piles at the mill site was observed during the
inspection.
Inspection Report - Corrective Action
The operator must within 30 days submit proof of erosion control for the three temporary
stockpiles.
Operator Response - Extension request of erosion control
July 23, 2009
The Leadville Mill has elected to use a combination of erosion and sediment control measures
for the temporary stockpiles. The existing controls (natural minor depressions, constructed
berms, and vegetative filters) will be augmented with silt fence on the downslope sides of the
temporary stockpiles. The silt fence is to be located within several feet of the permit/disturbed
area boundary as a temporary perimeter siltation control device.
The permit/disturbed area boundary stakes have been reestablished around the stockpiles. Pre-
attached fabric silt fence with 2"x2"0' wood posts on 10 foot centers has been purchased and
delivered to the site. The skid steer loader with trencher attachment has not arrived on site. A
extension of 30 days is requested to install the fence. The Leadville Mill will supply the
Division with a typical "as-built" installation diagram of the silt fence and pictures of the
installation.
The silt fence installation will follow these guidelines:
• trench 6-8in deep
• silt fence fabric 6-12in placed in trench
• fabric buried, trench back filled and tamped
• shallow sediment storage depression upslope of the installed silt fence
• fabric NOT INSTALLED across channels, culverts, drainages
Operator Response - Installation of Erosion Control Silt Fence
August 17, 2009
The Leadville Mill has installed silt fence around the three temporary ore stockpiles and the
topsoil stockpile. The pictures below are presented as indicative of the erosion control program.
Additionally, a typical "as-built" silt fence installation diagram is also presented below.
