Permit Renewal Application No.2(RN-2)
Dear West Regional Wildlife Manager:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118,Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 19, 2001, an application to renew
an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Hamilton Mine was considered complete for the
purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining
Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Honeywood Coal Company proposes to continue Surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land
located approximately 3 miles Southeast of Naturita, Colorado. The,permit area is further described as
follows:
Portions of Section 33,T46N,R15W,NMPM.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Naturita.
Honeywood Coal Company has submitted an application for renewal of a valid existing permit to conduct
mining and or reclamation activities in the State of Colorado.
Because the above referenced permit renewal application would not incorporate additional lands into the
permit area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are
requesting your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy
of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan,and the reclamation plan as it relates to
fish and wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are
requested. If wildlife habitat is the proposed postmining land use, we request your evaluation of proposed
woody plant stocking levels, planting arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse
impacts.
