Box 773749 uvisiofl 01 and t Safety
n
Steamboat Springs, CO 80477 Mining
RE: Permanent Retention of West Ridge Diversion Ditch, Edna Mine
Dear Mr. Chad Phillips:
In accordance with Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety (CDRMS)
regulations Chevron Mining Inc. (Chevron) is requesting comments pertaining to the
permanent retention of the West Ridge diversion ditch. CDRMS will consider your
comments prior to issuing a decision. Further information pertaining to the West Ridge
diversion ditch and this process are discussed below.
Chevron has contracted WWC Engineering (WWC) to assist in attaining bond release for the
former Edna Mine, Permit Number C-80-001, located in Routt County, Colorado. The Edna
Mine is in permanent cessation, reclamation is nearly complete, and the site is approaching
potential final bond release.
The West Ridge sediment pond and associated West Ridge diversion ditch are located in
Township 4 North, Range 86 West, Sections 13 and 14. These structures were designed to
route storm event inflow from the West Ridge and western slope of the Center Ridge drainage
areas to the West Ridge sediment pond. The West Ridge sediment pond was previously
approved as a permanent structure and therefore will remain post final bond release. The
West Ridge diversion ditch is located at the foot of the West Ridge reclamation slope.
Chevron is requesting that the CDRMS allow the West Ridge diversion ditch to remain as a
permanent structure via Minor Permit Revision 53 (MR-53).
In accordance with state regulations, Rules 2.05.5(1) (a) (iii) and 2.05.5(1) (b), comments
from surface owners and State and local agencies are required regarding the proposed
retention of the West Ridge diversion ditch. Consideration will be given regarding surface
owners plans and programs and the State and local government agencies which have to
initiate, implement, approve, or authorize the proposed use of land following reclamation.
The entirety of the West Ridge diversion ditch is located in Routt County, Parcel ID No.'s
952144001, 952132001 and 952241001 (Figure 1).
