ERO Resources
influence of this disturbance, as campar~i with natural allelochemical
• effects of greasewood, on the herb layer are difficult to assess. Jn
areas where adjacent disturbance is marked, a decline in the extent of
this vegetation type might be implied. In such places the
sagebrush-greasewood bottoms occupy narrow strips strictly limited to the
near-barks of the stream courses.
(4) Potential Impacts and Reclamation (lonortunities.
M~jflation and Enhancement:
The big sagebrush-greasewood type will be affected by minx development
operations including construction of mine portal facilities, haul and
access roads and waste disposal sites. These operations will remove areas
of the type and damage other areas adjacent to construction. As a result
of the specific environmental factors controlling the occurrence of this
vegetation type, replacement of the stands during revegetation will be
difficult and impractical. Eventual reinvasion of drainage ways
established in disturbed areas may reestablish the shrub layer.
•
•
II.F-51
