•
•
E and measuring ph and conductivity with a pH/Conductivity meter. Samples will be labeled, stored on ice
Cotter Corporation PROCEDURE Number: 3-4
Schwartzwalder Mine Page: 1 of 5
Golden, Colorado WATER MONITORING Revision: 6
Date: 01/10/2008
WATER MONITORING
1.0 Purpose
To set forth ground and surface water sampling methodology at the licensed facilities for compliance with
License Condition 23.0 and 23.2 of RML 369-03S; Amendment 08.
2.1 Frequency
All ground water sampling locations are sampled on a quarterly basis.
Ground water sam les are collected at the following locations:
1) Monitoring O 6) Monitoring 4
Well Well
2) Monitoring 00 7) Monitoring 6
Well Well
3) Monitoring 1 8) Monitoring 7
Well Well
4) Monitoring 2 9) Monitoring 9
Well Well
5) Monitoring 3A 10) Monitoring 11
Well Well
11) Domestic
Well
2.3 Sample Collection
2.3.1 General Requirements (if sending to Mill for analysis)
Acidify all samples with nitric acid (concentrated) to pH < 2, after filtration.
If sending out-of-house, no filtration or acidification is necessary.
All sample collection and filtration equipment is cleaned with detergent and rinsed with deionized water
prior to initial use. A thorough rinse with deionized water is sufficient for decontamination between
sample locations.
Calibrate the pH meter for in-field parameter measurement (pH/conductivity /temperature) prior to each
day of use. Sample collection should proceed sequentially from the location with historically low
conductivity to the location with historically high conductivity to minimize potential sample cross-
contamination.
2.3.2 Sample Collection Method(s) General- Monitoring Wells (if sending out-of-house for analysis)
Water levels will be measured prior to sampling monitoring wells. Water levels will be used to determine
well casing volume. Each monitoring well will be purged of three well volumes before sampling. Each
well will be purged using one of the following devices:
1) PVC-bailer
2) air-driven bladder pump
3) dedicated submersible pump
Example: The air-driven bladder pump will be used to sample MW-11. The pump and tubing will be
decontaminated prior to sample collection. After purging, a sample will be pumped directly into the
sample bottle(s). Feld measurement will be carried out during the sampling, via filling a 250 mL beaker
and shipped directly to laboratories on the day of sample collection. A thorough rinse with deionized
water is sufficient for decontamination between sample locations.
