Environmental Protection Plan, Schwartzwalder Mine 17-1 <br />17. PLANT GROWTH MEDIUM (SOILS) <br />Soils and plant growth media used for reclamation were stockpiled during mining and used to construct <br />vegetated covers for the waste rock piles and other areas of the mine. Additional soils and growth medium <br />were derived from the Black Forest Mine, located west of the Schwartzwalder in Ralston Creek Canyon. <br />The soil types within a 3 mile radius of the Cotter-Schwartzwalder Mine are shown in Figure 17-1. Soil <br />properties, including texture, pH, electrical conductivity and sodium adsorption ratio for soil types in the <br />study area are shown in Table 17-1. The soil data was derived from the Soil SURvey GeOgraphic <br />(SSURGO) data set for C0641 - Golden Area, Colorado, Parts of Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, and Park <br />Counties (MRCS, 2009), which was downloaded from the federal Soil Data Mart online database. The <br />SSURGO data set is a digital soil survey and is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by <br />the National Cooperative Soil Survey. <br />Soils in the study area range from fine-loamy to loamy-skeletal in texture. Soil pH ranges from 5.1 to 9.0, <br />Electrical conductivity and sodium adsorption ratios for soils in the study area range from 0 to 4 mmhos/cm <br />and 0 to 2 respectively. <br /> <br /> <br />4109C.090807 Whetstone Associates
