Harsha soils are on mountain side slopes, fans, and ridges and have slopes of 0 to 60
percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 12 inches and the mean annual air temperature is about 37
degrees F.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mixed, superactive Ustic Argicryids
TYPICAL PEDON: Harsha loam - native grass. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.)
Al--0 to 5 inches; dark grayish brown (1 OYR 4/2) loam, very dark grayish brown (1 OYR 3/2) moist; weak
medium granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; noncalcareous; mildly
alkaline; clear smooth boundary. The mean annual soil temperature ranges from 38
to 42 degrees F. and mean summer soil temperature ranges from 49 to 59 degrees F.
The A horizon hue of 2.5Y through 7.5YR, value of 4 through 6 dry, 2 through 4 moist, and chroma of 2 or 3
moist and dry. This horizon is typically loam but ranges to clay loam.
The B horizon has hue of 2.5Y through 7.5YR, value of 5 through 7 dry, 5 or 6 moist, and chroma of 2
through 4 moist and dry.
