EXHIBIT D
Clay Pit 21 (Mining Plan)
(Applicant: Moffat County Board of County Commissioners)
Purpose:
The Clay Pit 21 is a proposed road materials pit on the west side of County Road No. 21
and just north of the intersection with County Road No. 26. The center of the pit will be
located in the Wl/2NE1/4 of Section 10, Township 9N, and Range 96W in Moffat
County, Colorado. The proposed clay materials will be mined and hauled, primarily, to
the Little Snake Pit No. 26, which is approximately one mile west of County Road No. 21
on County Road No. 26. The clay will be mixed with the sandy road base gravel product
that has been, or will be produced in the Little Snake Pit No. 26 The clay will be a binder
for the sandy road base, and will reduce the washboard effect on the roads, as well as the
dust this product now produces. The clay may also be hauled directly to the road
construction projects and mixed with the sandy road base from other gravel pits right on
the road. Another use for the clay will be for lining the fuel storage structures to prevent
fuel leaks on the construction projects.
Mine Entrance Co-ordinates:
The proposed mine entrance (latitude and longitude) co-ordinates are:
(N40.75644 Degrees and W108.16176 Degrees).
A Gate and cattle guard are proposed for this location (see Exhibit C-1).
Clay Mining Zone:
The Clay Mining Zone is estimated to be around 6 acres of excavation, however the area
of potential disturbance will be 18.498 acres, which is the total acreage of the Mined Land
Reclamation Permit to be applied for. The clay product zone is roughly 6 acres, and the
average thickness of the clay is four feet. Therefore, the estimated volume of available
clay materials is:
43560 x 6 x 4 = 39,000 cubic yards of clay (rounded).
27
The clay will be mixed approximately 10% clay to 90% sandy road base.
Man Made Improvements:
The man-made improvements that may have a "defined, current and recognizable value
of an economic nature" on, or within 200 feet of the affected area are shown on Exhibit
C-1.
BLM = a two-track road crossing the affected area east and west that is commonly
used by antelope hunters (among others).
The Moffat County Road Department manages County Roads No. 21 and 26,
including improvements within 200 feet of the affected area:
Roads, drainage structures, signs and fence improvements.
(Note: check fence improvements!)
