Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Thank you for your prompt response to the issues noted in the June 23, 2009 inspector report from the
Division. Please confirm your contact phone number is correct. The last Annual Report submitted by
you has 970-824-6467. Staff called this number twice and did not receive an answering machine so
moved forward with visiting the site with other activities in the area.
From the pictures it appears you are addressing the thistle problem on site. Blue Jet is not alone in
fighting thistle in the area and it is important that the Division has accurate records of treatment when
the time comes for any release requests. Once Blue Jet has met with local control people and gained a
plan it should submit it to the Division as a Technical Revision. Staff considers the issue resolved for
now. But please be aware that should weeds continue to be a problem a technical revision shall be
required to address a full blown weed abatement program.
Pictures also note that the old concentrator and barrels are in the process of being removed. It is highly
recommended that these areas be seeded in mid October as part of the reclamation of the site. Please
be sure to include these activities in your annual report. Sampling, reclamation and maintenance are all
considered valid activities to show permit activity. The map shows an area outside the permit boundary
which was reseeded. Original maps are somewhat sketchy by today's standards but this area appears to
be outside the approved boundaries. Please be sure to explain any activities outside the approved
boundaries. The issues of the map and current reclamation are considered resolved.
Finally thank you for the information on the mine and its deposits. Please note however that while the
information is interesting it is more of a prospectus than an actual plan. Blue Jet must be diligent in its
active upkeep of the mine site to conform to the Act and Rules.
Office of
Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
