III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Carbon Junction Coal Mine was conducted by DRMS staff from the
Durango Office at 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247-5469. No
individuals were contacted and no activities were observed during the inspection.
Public access to the permit area is controlled by a locked gate at the mine entrance. Evidence of
vehicles recently bypassing the gate was not observed.
Vegetation was emerging in the areas recently seeded and mulched. Vegetative cover appears to be
continuing its positive trend in all areas previously reclaimed.
The Carbon Junction Diversion appeared intact and capable of functioning as designed. Evidence of
recent and significant flows in the constructed channel was not observed.
