Cattany
Division Director
/Natural Resource Trustee
Re: Urie Gravel Pit, Application No. M-2009-038, Second Adequacy Review of 112 Construction Materials
Reclamation Permit Application Package
Dear Mr. Joy:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has continued the review process for the above referenced 112
application. The project appears to be a straight forward request to permit a construction materials operation. A
review of the response to the preliminary adequacy review has revealed a few clarifications and issues that need to be
addressed.
1. The Mine Plan states "No overburden or topsoil will be stockpiled along the river banks". Please clarify
the source of material for the proposed earthen sound barriers located along the river and to the northeast
of the permit area. Also please state what reclamation methods will be used to reclaim the sound
barriers.
2. Please state the total proposed surface area of the reclaimed pond and water depth. Also clarify in acres
the total area to be revegetated per phase.
3. Please state the amount of overburden that will be replaced per phase in inches. This is required to
accurately estimate the reclamation cost estimate.
This application cannot be approved until the issues brought forth are adequately addressed. Please submit a response
to the following issues as soon as possible, but no later than August 21, 2009 so the decision due date set for
September 1, 2009 can be met. If your response or a written extension request are not received by September 1, 2009
this application may be denied.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.241.2042. .
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Steve Shuey, DRMS
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
