Section - 2.04.4
A Paleontological Survey was completed in June 2001 by Paleontological Investigations for an area of
• approximately 330 acres to be disturbed by OMLLC's Elk Creek Lease Exploration Project. Review
of documentation for the paleontological collections of both the University of Colorado and Denver
Museum of Nature and Science indicated no findings or specimens for the general project area. A
search of scientific literature in the USGS Library (Denver) indicates that there has been some
previous paleontological work in the general area and that the Museum of Western Colorado (Grand
junction) has several specimens from this area in its collections. Field survey efforts did not identify
any significant paleontological resources in the study area. Survey results are included in Exhibit 2.04-
E3.
2.04.5 - General Description of Hydrology and Geology
The following section describes the general geologic and hydrologic environment in vicinity of the
mine permit area as a basis for understanding site-specific geologic and hydrologic conditions in the
permit and adjacent areas and evaluation of potential mining-related impacts and development of any
appropriate plans for conservation of resources and mitigation or restoration of the hydrologic
balance. Consistent with applicable regulatory requirements, the information presented in this section
and Sections 2.04.6, Geologic Description, and 2.04.7,. Hydrologic Information, address regional
conditions (General Area), the mine permit and adjacent areas, and actual mining disturbance or mine
plan areas. This section specifically addresses the "General Area" with regard to geology and
hydrology. The information presented in this section is based on research of available published
reports and documents; contacts with Federal, State, and local agencies; site-specific investigations;
and ongoing monitoring activities.
•
IIWCRF 2.0462 June 2003
