amec'9 <br />SECTION 02271.0 RIP RAP <br />PART 1: GENERAL <br />1.01 DESCRIPTION <br />All work shall be carried out in compliance with these SPECIFICATIONS and in conformance with the lines, <br />grades, and dimensions as shown on the DRAWINGS. <br />1.02 RELATED SECTIONS <br />Refer to the following Sections for related work: <br />Section 02200.0 Earthworks <br />Section 03300.0 Cast-in-place Concrete <br />PART 2: SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTALLATION <br />2.01 MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS <br />A. Rip rap shall consist of hard, dense, and durable stone, angular in shape, and resistant to weathering. <br />Rounded stone or boulders will not be accepted as riprap material. The stone shall have a specific <br />gravity of at least 2.5. Each piece shall have its greatest dimension not greater than three times its <br />least dimension. If approved by CERTIFYING ENGINEER, removed concrete may be used for <br />riprap provided it meets the other requirements of this section. <br />B. Material used for riprap will be approved by CERTIFYING ENGINEER if, by visual inspection, <br />the rock is determined to be sound and durable. MANAGER and CERTIFYING ENGINEER may <br />require CONTRACTOR to furnish laboratory results to verify that the material meets <br />SPECIFICATIONS. At the request of MANAGER, CONTRACTOR shall furnish laboratory test <br />results indicating that the material meets the requirements for strength as indicated in the following <br />table. <br />Test Description Test Method S eeification Re uirement <br />Point Load Tensile Strength ISRM RTH 325-89 300 psi (min) <br />C.
