degradation in the river. Should Urie Rock Company or associates wish to pursue stocking the proposed
reclamation pond in the future, they are reminded they must consult with CDOW and adhere to state regulations.
CDOW also has concerns regarding the increase in heavy truck traffic to and from the proposed site along Rio
Blanco County Road 46 and Colorado State Highway 64. CDOW recognizes the negative cumulative effects that
increasing heavy truck traffic has had on local mule deer and antelope herds in the Rangely area. CDOW
recommends Urie Rock Company restrict heavy truck traffic from early morning and late evening hours. CDOW
also encourages truck drivers to adhere to posted speed limits in the area. Additional impacts from the noise and
degradation of air quality in the vicinity of the site cannot be quantified, but may be of significant effect to local
terrestrial wildlife populations.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposal.
Sincerely,
Bill de Vergie
CDOW Area Wildlife Manager
Cc. Joe Nicholson, District Wildlife Manager
Boyd Wright, Fishery Biologist
