The mining company has indicated that since there is no longer any active <br />mining or blasting and limited human activities on the reclamation areas, there is no longer any need for wildlife <br />monitoring. CDOW concurs that under these conditions, there is no longer any need for wildlife monitoring by <br />the mining company. <br />The initial wildlife monitoring was for a winter aerial survey for big game and monitoring for Columbian sharp- <br />tailed grouse leks, golden eagle activity, and sandhill crane activity. The quality of the wildlife monitoring and <br />reclamation by Seneca Coal Company, L.L.C. has been beneficial and greatly appreciated. The Colorado Division <br />of Wildlife would like to continue the ability to monitor the golden eagle nest activity and especially grouse leks <br />in the area and would like to request from Seneca Coal Company, L.L.C. that access to the property be <br />maintained to allow the DOW to carry on monitoring activities. We will contact the Seneca Coal Company, L.L.C. <br />in the near future concerning maintaining access for this purpose. <br />We have appreciated the opportunity to work together with Seneca Coal Company, L.L.C. to benefit wildlife.
