Memorandum
4?y ENGI1NEFRING j
To: Kathy Welt
cc: Charlie Rehn
From: Derek Johnson
Date: 6/15/2009
Re: Mountain Coal Company - Refuse Pile Expansion Stability Analysis
Work completed thus far on the Mountain Coal Company (MCC) Refuse Pile Expansion (RPE) includes:
• Existing Project Review- The original RPE report, model and associated exhibits have been reviewed to provide our
staff with background of the original findings and recommendations for the RPE.
• Modelin¢- A slope stability model has been set up based on the existing cross sections and known geology. Test runs
with this model have shown to be consistent with the original model findings. Once the final geotechnical
information is available it will be incorporated into this model to produce the final sensitivity graph.
• Testine- Testing of the eleven material samples is complete for all tests except the Triaxial Compression Tests for six
of the samples. According to our testing laboratory, it is anticipated that these remaining tests will be completed by
next week.
Once we have all of the testing information we will do a sensitivity analvsis and produce a final report of our findings.
12227 SOUTH BUSINESS PARK DR, S i E 220 • DRAPER, UTAH 84020 • TEL 8015210100 •888.523.2221 • FAX 801.523.0990 WWW.sunrise-eng.com
