PUBLIC NOTICE
<br />MINREC, INC., 627 24 1/2 Road, Unit I, Grand Junction, CO 81505, has submitted an
<br />application for renewal of a valid, existing permit to conduct coal mining in Colorado to the
<br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety for its North Thompson Creek Mines, mining
<br />permit no. C-1981-025.
<br />The mine permit area is located in Pitkin County, in the North Thompson Creek Drainage,
<br />approximately 10 miles to the southwest of Carbondale on Garfield County Road 108 and
<br />Pitkin County Road 1, in lands located in Sections 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34, 35, T. 8 S., R. 89
<br />W., 6th P.M. and Sections 2, 3, 4, T. 9 S., R. 89 W., 6th P.M. The mine permit area
<br />encompasses 3300 acres. The surface of the mine permit area is owned by the North
<br />Thompson-Four Mile Mineral and Land Corporation (portions of sections 22, 27, 34, 35
<br />T8S), the Crystal River Ranch Company (portions sections 2, 3 T9S, and sections 34, 35
<br />TBS, the Bureau of Land Management (portions of section 35 TBS, and the U. S. Forest
<br />Service (portions of sections 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34 TBS, and sections 2, 3, 4 T9S). A more
<br />precise description of mine site boundaries is depicted on Map D-3-21 of the Permit
<br />Application Package. This map is included in this description by reference.
<br />The loadout permit area is located in Garfield County, south of the Roaring Fork River,
<br />approximately 2 miles north, on Garfield County Road 109 from the intersection with
<br />Garfield County Road 108, in lands located in Lots 4, 5, 6, and 7, Section 29, T. 7 S., R. 88
<br />W., 6th P.M. The mine-loadout haul road traverses Sections 29, 30, and 32, T. 7 S.,-R. 88
<br />W., and Section 5 T. 8 S., R. 88 W., 6th P.M. The loadout permit area encompasses 36
<br />acres owned by the Crystal River Ranch Company and Jeff Burtard. A more precise
<br />description of loadout site boundaries is depicted on Map D-3-3A of the Permit Application
<br />Package. This map is included in this description by reference.
<br />The mine and loadout permit areas can be located on the U.S.G.S. 7.5 minute Stony
<br />Ridge, Cattle Creek and Carbondale, CO quadrangle maps respectively. The total permit
<br />area is 3336 acres of which 1516 acres is on Federal land.
<br />A copy of the permit renewal application is available for public inspection at the Garfield
<br />County Clerk and Recorder's Office, 109 8t' Street, Suite 200, Garfield County
<br />Courthouse, Glenwood Springs, CO and at the offices of the Division. Written
<br />comments, objections or a request for an informal conference on the proposed permit
<br />renewal may be submitted to and additional information obtained from the Division of
<br />Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO 80203,
<br />phone (303) 866-3567. Written comments or objections must be submitted to the
<br />Division within thirty (30) days of the last publication of this notice.
