009 Annual Report
Pikkeview Quarry
?M-1977-211
Continental Materials
Anniversary Date: May 27
bMk
DECEIVED
?L 0 2 2009
Division of Reclamation,
?L0 Mining and Safety
Overview of Permit Year. During the 2008/2009 operating year a majority of the mining activity occurred in
the area at the base of the high-wall. Mining in the Layback area was conducted consistently throughout the
year. Mineable limestone has yet to be encountered on the layback. Since training in Area H is below the final
grade of 7200 feet no reclamation took place other than backfilling mined areas as the reclamation plan calls for.
This backfillmg has taken place in the south end of Area H Weed control was implemented on the site. A
large landslide took place on December 2, 2008 and no mining has taken place since.
Much of the already reclaimed bench area under the south peak was disturbed during the landslide. This area
must be addressed in the new plan as it has been determined the only way this area will ever truly be stable is to
remove the limestone from the face of the decomposed granite.. There is the potential that the layback will
need to be taken farther back to the west to accommodate this happening.
Annual Report Map: Affected land is illustrated on the attached map. See photo of slide area for an accurate
assessment of affected land.
Reclamation: Shaping of the layback is occurring and work is expected to continue in this area. As was stated
above the benches below the 7200 foot elevation are not reclaimed as the location known as Area H must be
backfilled to this elevation before reclamation will occur. Benches are reclaimed as they are finished..
Work Anticipated in 2008/2009: Monitoring of the landslide area will continue throughout the year. Once
the slide is determined to be safe and stable, geotechnical, geological and hydrological studies will be conducted
to determine the appropriate method of mining and reclaiming the quarry. No mining will occur during 2009
with a plan to be submitted by June of 2010. Weed control will continue in the unaffected areas of the quarry
Bonding. This operation is covered under a financial warranty corporate surety arrangement provided by
Westchester Fire Insurance Company.
Confine a Materials
2008 Annual Report M-1977-211 Pikeview Quarry
Page 1 of 1
