Termination of Wildlife Monitoring
Dear Mr. Sir/Madam:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 12, 2009, an application to revise coal
mining operations at the Seneca H-W Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filling. The revision was
submitted by Seneca Coal Company, LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the
Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
This revision application would allow for termination of the wildlife monitoring program at the Seneca 11 West
Mine, based on the fact that active mining operations have ceased and future activity will be limited to
maintenance and reclamation projects.
The surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles South of Hayden, Colorado. The
permit area is further described as follows:
T5N, R88W; All of Section 15; Portions of Sections 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, and 35
T6N, R88W; Portions of Sections 14, 23 and 24
T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 17, 18, 19
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Hayden, Hayden Gulch,
Dunckley, and Mt. Harris.
Because the above referenced technical revision application would alter a previously approved wildlife monitoring
program, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments relating to the adequacy of
the amended plan, and whether you believe continued monitoring is warranted, are requested.
A copy of the technical revision is enclosed. Please advise us if you require additional information.
The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete.
At the time of publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at
