(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1996-060
INSPECTION DATE: 6/25/09 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS _
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection prompted by a letter from an adjacent property owner concerned about potential off-site
damage as a result of activities of the Hall Irwin Firestien Pit operation. The Firestien Pit is an active 112c sand
and gravel operation located immediately to the south and west of the subject property. DRMS met with site
representative Jim McFarland of Hall Irwin, and property owners Anthony and Lisa Antuna on the subject
property at approximately 0930 and toured the area with them.
The subject property is located at 12598 Weld County Road 64.5 Greeley, CO 80631 and is immediately
adjacent to the Firestien Pit which is located on the south and west sides of the property. The concern was
regarding a small "sinkhole" located in a stock corral area on the south part of the property. The sinkhole
appeared in the last week of May 2009 and was approximately three feet across and three feet deep. The hole
has not grown any larger or deeper since it first appeared, and no other holes have been observed on the subject
property or the Hall Irwin property to the south. The property owners state that there are no underground
utilities in the area, and that to their knowledge, the ground in that area has never been disturbed by any kind of
excavation or other activities.
It is not readily apparent what the cause of the sinkhole is at this time, but at this point, it appears to be an
isolated incident, and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. Mr. McFarland offered that Hall Irwin would fill
the hole even though the cause is undetermined at this time. It was agreed that Hall Irwin would fill the hole
and the matter would be resolved unless further subsidence activity is observed that would require additional
investigation.
I & E Contact Address
Jim McFarland
Hall Irwin
30264 th Ave
Greeley CO 80631
Property Owner Address
Anthony Antuna
12598 WCR 641/2
Greeley CO 80631
