ANNUAL REPORT
PIT NAME: SHIPPS PIT
OPERATOR: COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION/HIGHWAYS
SUBSTANCE MINED: SAND & GRAVEL
DATE: June 19, 2009
D.M.G. PERMIT NO.: M-1978-102
Pursuant to the requirements stated in Construction Materials Rules and Regulations of the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, we are submitting the following information on our
permitted area known as the Shippes Pit.
We have done no reclamation and no mining in the past year so no new map is submitted.
This is a Maintenance pit and is currently held open for scheduled maintenance projects and for
emergencies requiring sand and gravel. Funding for such projects is usually determined by a
combination of roadway surface conditions in the area and available funding. This requires short
term reactive type planning, therefore it is difficult to anticipate when mining operations will
start again in these types of pits.
The Owner and CDOT are currently engaged in transferring the permit to the owner. CDOT
recently re-established the pit boundary markers.
Gary DeWitt
Region 4 Materials Engineer
3971 W. Service Rd.
Evans, Colorado 80620
Phone (970)350-2379
