Annual Report
Currier Gravel Pit
M-1980-203
June 29, 2009
Mesa County, Colorado
Permitted acreage is less than 10 acres.
Approximately 1.25 acres of land was affected by crushing operations in 2008.
Reclamation activity has begun on approximately 3 acres of land.
No crushing or mining activity is anticipated for the next report year.
No changes to previous map are necessary.
This gravel pit is on intermittent status. Historically, gravel demand for this remote
location comes from Forest Service or Mesa County governments. However oil and gas
companies now need gravel for their well pads and access roads to their drill sites.
During the report year an estimated 115,000 tons of gravel was crushed from July 15,
2008 through September 30, 2008. Most of this gravel was hauled off by trucks from
August 1, 2008 through October 31, 2008. Due to poor economic conditions, nearly all
oil and gas activity ceased in this area November 1, 2008. There was crushing and
hauling activity at this location for approximately 120 days during the report year. There
is a stockpile of gravel at the site.
Operator does not believe there will be more than 180 days of activity in the coming
report year. Acreage is correctly depicted on the previously submitted map. Weed
spraying did occur during the report year. Pit location markers are located annually.
Some reclamation activity was begun on previously mined areas of sloping topsoil on
exposed walls and grass seeding. Further reclamation will proceed when the remaining
stockpile of gravel is sold and removed.
