IZ
0 0
The Zellitti Fit is an existing open pit gravel mine that has
been in use since 1950. The gravel pit was first used in the
1950s by Luigi Zellitti for roadway work in the area and on
the farm. In 1977 La Plata County mined a 25-acre parcel in
this pit. Later in 1978 La Plata County permitted a 5-acre
parcel in this area. A 110 mining permit was obtained with
the Division of Minerals and Geology (1313 Sherman Street.
Room 215, Denver, Colorado, 80203, phone, 303-866-5667).
This 110 mining permit *M-80-246 authorized mining and gravel
crushing within 9.6 acres. The gravel pit is currently
operating under this permit.
To meet the gravel needs of a growing La Plata County,
Anthony Zellitti is applying for a 112 mining permit which
would expand the current 9.6 acre gravel pit to a 36 acre
pit. Approximately 1 1/2 acres will be mined and reclaimed
for the next 20 years.
Alhk The land around Zellitti Pit is primarily used as open
rangeland. The affected mining area will be leveled, covered
with topsoil, reseeded and returned to rangeland once mining
has been completed. There are no residences, barns, sheds or
other buildings within 200 feet of the proposed affected area
boundary. The closest residence belongs to Anthony Zellitti
who is 800 feet away.
Lee Ivey,
Agent for Anthony Zellitti
