rage [.
Exhibit J
Mulching - The rate of 4000 pounds per acre is the average rate for mulching but
t e straw should not be applied before the seeding is completed. Crimping can be
done with a disc but the results may be less than satisfactory. A crimper should
be used whenever possible. Plastic netting is good on steep slopes when stapled
in place over the mulch in lieu of crimping.
Seeding - Seeding can generally be done anytime after October 15. Sand dropseed
occurs naturally on the site and likely has a considerable seed source to reseed
itself. Pubescent wheatgrass would be a better species to provide soil protection
since it is a sid forming grass. Sainfoin or Cicer milkvetch are better suited
legumes for reclamation purposes than yellow sweetclover as they will provide a
good perennial ground cover.
Variety Species % of Mixture Rate/acre PLS
Fairway Crested Wheatgrass 40 1.2
Luna Pubescent G.'heatgrass 20 1.8
Arriba Western Wheatgrass 20 1.6
Vinal Russian Wildrye 10 0.5
Onar Sainfoin S 1.25
Monarch Cicer Milkvetch 5 0.33
6.68
Species List
Grasses: Scientific Name Height {inches)
blue grama Bouteloua gracilis 3 - 8
sideoats grama Bouteloua curtipendula 16 - 24
western wheatgrass AS pyron smithii 24 - 36
alkali sacaton Sporobolus airiodes 18 - 20
sand dropseed Sporobolus cryptandrus 24 - 30
needleandthread Stipa c_omata 20 - 24
vine mesquite Hilaria obtusum 6 - 10
red threeawn Aristida longiseta 4 - 6
Shrubs and Forbs:
skunkbush sumac Rhus trilobata 30 - 52
hoptree Ptelea trifoliata 60
tall rabbitbrush C rysothamnus nauseosus 48
winterfat Certoides lanata 24 - 30
Bigelow sagebrush Artemesia bigelovii 8 - 12
four-wing saltbush Atriplex canescens 36 - 48
snakeweed Xanthocephalum sarathrae 4 - 6
buckwheat spp. Eriogonum 8 - 16
small soapweed Yucca glauca 12 - 20
cudweed sagewort Artemesia glomer6ta 8 - 15
prickly pear 0 untia of cantha 4 - 6
cholla Opuntia im ricata 24 36
juniper Juniperus monosperma 72 -108
pinion Pinus edulis 72 -108
