(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1977-345
INSPECTION DATE: 6/19/09 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for an active 110c sandstone quarry operation conducted by Eric Scott
of DRMS for the Boettcher Sandstone site. DRMS met with site operator representative Michael Toelle on site
at approximately 1045 and toured the site with him.
The required site entrance postings and site boundary markers need to be refreshed and/or replaced as no site
entrance sign was present.
Mining has not taken place at this site at in quite some time, and the site has not been put into temporary
cessation. It should be noted that the rule states that reclamation should be completed within five years after
mining ceases unless the site is put into temporary cessation. No reclamation activities have been completed at
the site to date, and weed control efforts will need to be implemented as soon as possible to keep noxious
species from establishing/spreading any further.
The reclamation plan for this site dates back to 1978 and calls for blending the site with the adjacent land with
slopes of 2:1 or flatter. Soil that is encountered will be re-spread and the area revegetated. The currently
approved seed mix consists of Needle and Thread, Little Bluestem (5 lbs/ac PLS), and Indian Ricegrass (8
lbs/ac PLS).
Some earthmoving work will be required to reconfigure slopes to 2:1 or flatter where possible. A Technical
Revision JR) to the 1978 reclamation plan will be required if the access road is to be left in place, or any of the
highwall features are to remain on site. If highwalls are to remain on site after reclamation, it will need to be
demonstrated that they have been adequately stabilized. The seed mix may also be updated via the same TR to
a more current blend if desired.
I & E Contact Address
Michael Toelle
Holcim Inc.
