MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: m-i 993- n( A
INSPECTION DATE: 6-1 79109 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: -JLF
OBSERVATIONS
This was a follow-up inspection of the Navajo Clay Mine, DRMS File# M-1993-004, operated by General Shale
Brick, Inc. This site is located approximately 10 miles north east of the town of Kiowa, in Elbert County,
Colorado. Mr. Jason McGraw of General Shale Brick, Inc. accompanied me on the inspection.
This site was inspected on June 9th, 2008 in order for the Division to process a permit transfer from Robinson
Brick to General Shale Brick. During that inspection it was observed that the storm water pond located on the
south west end of the processing pad area had been damaged by erosion. This issue was cited as a problem in
that inspection report and the current inspection was conducted to order to evaluate the current condition of
the storm water pond.
At the time of this inspection is appears that the storm water pond has been improved and is functioning
properly. According to Mr. McGraw, this impoundment has been constructed to handle a 10 year rain event.
The rip-rap inlet has been reconstructed and a rubber liner has been placed under the rip-rap. Overall, it
appears that this problem has been abated at this time.
