III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br /> Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br /> during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br /> and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br /> This was a Partial Inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted by Marcia Talvitie of the Colorado <br /> DRMS beginning at 1 1:15 a.m. on Monday, 08-June-2009. No representative of the operator was <br /> present during the inspection. Weather conditions were mostly clear and breezy. <br /> Signs and Markers <br /> Mine Identification sign and Mining Permit sign were posted at the haul road Entrance to the <br /> Hamilton Mine. <br /> To soil <br /> The topsoil pile southwest of Pond A has good vegetative cover, with a variety of species. Four- <br /> wing salt bush, sage, prickly pear cactus, Winterfat, scarlet Globemallow, squirrel tail, Indian rice <br /> grass, snakeweed, mustard, cheat grass and redstem filaree were all observed. No noxious <br /> weeds were seen on the topsoil stockpile itself. <br /> Reclamation Success <br /> The Russian knapweed patch located near the fence corner southwest of Pond A had been <br /> sprayed effectively last fall, and shows no sign of resurgence. <br /> Noxious weeds were observed at the following locations, as highlighted on the accompanying <br /> aerial photograph: <br /> Russian knapweed <br /> Mine Area 1 <br /> • At the northern end of the disturbed area, upgradient of Pond A <br /> • Several patches located approximately 50' inside the western perimeter fence <br /> Mine Area 3 <br /> • At the inlet to the culvert that passes beneath the haul road to Area 3 <br /> • Immediately inside the fenced area, at the terminus of the haul road <br /> Whitetop <br /> Pond A-across the bottom of the pond <br /> Pond B-at the eastern end of the impoundment structure <br /> Tamarisk <br /> Pond A and Pond B <br /> The inspection concluded at 13:00. <br /> Hamilton Mine C-1991-078 08-Jun-2009 <br />
