Townsend's big-eared bat: Townsend's big-eared bats have not been formally documented in
the project area.
Fringed myotis: Fringed myotis bats have not been formally documented in the project area.
Spotted bat: No spotted bat occurrence has been formally documented within the proposed
project area.
Wolverine: Suitable wolverine habitat is lacking in the project area.
American marten: None were observed during the 2009 surveys. No marten tracks were
observed in Gambel oak/mountain shrub habitat the E-Seam Panels 2 & 3 area during predator-
prey track surveys conducted in the area during the last two winters. They have been observed in
• Spruce-fir habitat during winter track surveys along Deep Creek near where exploration drill
sites are located in the Panels 3 & 4 area.
Bald eagle: No occurrence of bald eagle has been formally documented within the proposed
project area. The nearest known bald eagle activity is along the North Fork of the Gunnison
• River. Suitable nesting and reproductive habitat for bald eagle is found along the river, but is not
• present in the proposed project area. Bald eagles do winter along the North Fork of the Gunnison
River and in the winter possibly make foraging flights through the area searching for carrion.
Winter roost site habitat for bald eagle is not present within the project area.
Peregrine falcon: No peregrine falcons were observed during the 2009 surveys. Individuals
have been observed flying in the Deep Creek/Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek drainages area in
• past years.
Northern goshawk: One northern goshawk was observed during the spring surveys. This was
near what is known as the Deep Creek crossing. This is the same general area where single
• goshawks have been observed during spring surveys in past years. While conducting winter
track surveys in March 2009 one was observed in a spruce-fir stand found along the Deep Creek
drainage downstream from exploration drill site K. This bird was eating a snowshoe hare that it
had killed.
Northern harrier: No northern harriers were observed during the 2009 surveys. They have been
infrequently observed during surveys conducted in the area in prior years.
Yellow-billed cuckoo: This species has been addressed previously in this report.
• Olive-$ided flycatcher: While conducting surveys this year and in prior years olive-sided
flycatchers have been commonly observed. Most of these birds were observed in aspen stands
although a few were observed in mountain shrub. There are large expanses of suitable nesting
and foraging habitat for these birds that will not be affected by the proposed development
7
