(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1996-008
INSPECTION DATE 6/12/09
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE
This inspection occurred in response to Operator inquiry regarding the potential installation of a buried
water line through the south end of the permit area and parallel to La Salle Road. Specifically, there was
a four foot high windrow of earthen material previously placed as a visual buffer, which would be
disturbed by the installation of the proposed water line. The visual buffer did not appearto be a condition
of the DRMS permit. Therefore, the Division has no comment regarding disturbance to the visual buffer.
However, the Operator may have to modify future excavation activity to avoid the buried water line and/or
to ensure that the water line is not damaged by the excavation activity.
The North R-34 Pit is approved for 37.4 acres permit area. The excavation will extend to approximately
60 foot depth and well below the water table. The pit will be dewatered in accordance with the plans
approved through, AM-01. The final pit will be reclaimed as a pond, approximately 25 acres surface area.
Affected lands will be reclaimed to support wildlife habitat post-mining land use. The Division holds
$18,921 financial warranty. One photo accompanies this report.
As shown in the photo, the excavation activity is limited to the Phase 1 area. Pit slopes for the south,
east and west sides were irregular in configuration and approximated 1 H:1 V. The north pit slope had
been graded to approximate 3H:1 V. Excavated material had been stockpiled east of the pit area and
awaiting relocation to the processing yard.
The extent of affected lands appeared consistent with the conditions of the Division's July 19, 2006
reclamation cost estimation totaling $18,921. Therefore, the existing financial warranty appeared
sufficient to ensure reclamation. However, as the excavation advances in area and in depth the Division
will update the cost of reclamation accordingly.
Response to this inspection report should be directed to the Division's office in Durango at 691 County
Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, CO 81301, to the attention of Wally Erickson, phone (970) 247-5469.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Judy DeVincentis
Western Gravel.
