(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2004-048
INSPECTION DATE 6/2/09
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Construction Materials 110c permits. The operator
was contacted about the scheduled inspection and a.time was arranged to meet at the site. The operator's representative
named on page one was present during the inspection.
The required permit ID sign was posted at the entrance to the site. The entire permit boundary is well marked by steel T-posts.
The site is kept clean and orderly. No equipment, parts or fuel is stored onsite. There are no contaminants, debris or noxious
weeds onsite. (There are, however, a number of annual yellow mustard plants in the permit, probably due to the onsite
disturbance. There should be pulled and removed or sprayed soon, to prevent them from going to seed on the permit area.)
The operation involves removal of surface sandstone boulders ov varying sizes. Sometimes the operator has to drill and split
large boulders to manageable size, but this does not result in waste product to dispose of. There is no excavatingto obtain the
stone, and no pit will result from its removal. Due to the surface deposition of this stone, there is no topsoil to be stripped,
stockpiled or replaced. There are no stockpiles of stone, although there are a number of large boulders adjacent to the onsite
road in the northern part of the permit area. No processing is carried out on the site. All mining activity has occurred inside the
boundary.
Unaffected areas on the permit contain this sandstone as a broken surface layer, sometimes covered with a thin sandy soil
veneer, and sometimes as raised stone pedestals where the underlying material has eroded. The sandstone is underlain by a
crumbly, clayey layer that weathers quickly. After removal of the stone, the clayey material may be graded smooth for
reclamation. Very little material has been removed during mining, and there is no reclamation performed yet. The bond
amount is sufficient to reclaim the site, given the very limited disturbance that has occurred.
There are other surface outcrops of this stone on nearby and adjacent land, which the operator expressed an interest in
possibly adding to his permitted area. Adding land to a permit involves a permit amendment, which may be applied for by
submitting a new 110 or 112 permit application form (available on the DRMS website: www.mininq.state.co.us ).
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to this inspector
at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, Colorado 81301.
